Chris was a much loved family friend, who felt more like extended family to us. We can't remember a time in our lives without the Pateman family in it, and for that, we feel very fortunate.
Chris was there to offer us sound advice, to make us laugh and to provide long-standing friendship and support to our parents, which we will always be grateful for. He helped fix various mopeds and ropey first cars more times than we can count... a never-ending source of tools, know-how and enthusiasm. We have many happy memories of him and our Dad tinkering around in the garage (saving Laura a small fortune in repair bills in the process!).
We fondly remember our families' traditional annual Christmas visits and will dearly miss him at the next big occasion. We cannot express how sorry we are to lose him so soon or how much Chris meant to our family, and we feel so lucky to have had him in our lives.
Sending our love to you all xxx

Chris became my knight in shining armour, allowing a skint uni student to hitch a ride to Oakham on a Friday night, starving hungry and laden with washing. He then kindly picked me up half asleep at silly o’clock on Monday morning, with a full tummy, clean washing and a box of left overs!! A door to door delivery service - with much better chat than your usual taxi driver!! Over the years Chris was always a friendly face at many family gatherings in Oakham where I got to know him and his lovely family. You will be sadly missed but I will always smile fondly when thinking about you and your family. Xx

I knew you as a colleague and friend through your work in The School of Physics at Nottingham University.
We had many a laugh and a joke together when contributing to the banter in the tea room. Out of work get togethers, especially the Christmas meal, were all the more enjoyable with you present.
A recurring theme was me referring to you as a Cockney (Cock-a-nee) on account of your London(ish) lilt and you never believing that as a kid I used to chew liquorice root, " get away.. not even you Northerners chewed twigs instead of sweets" you would say.
I'll miss you mate.
